Every child has the right to be part of an environment that offers them quality teaching along with experiences that inspire him / her to learn. In addition developing life skills should enable him / her to become a full and active member of the learning community.
Transition should not just be about starting or changing schools but should be part of a whole school approach in assisting the child to make a smooth move from one year to the next EVERY year. Continuity of learning is then possible without that "summer holiday dip" that for some children lasts well into the Autumn Term.
An integrated thematic approach to teaching helps each child to make links across their learning and ultimately helps them to make more sense of curriculum content.
Curriculum Enhancement with an agreed programme of Visits out and Visitors in, often ignites an enthusiasm that inspires children to produce work of a very high quality.
School Council provides an opportunity for children to feel involved with the running of their school and can lead to changes that engage their commitment and ultimately develop their life skills.
Establishing a Whole School Behaviour Policy that enables children to make the right choice when confronted by a difficult situation further adds to continuing academic progress by minimising disruptions to the learning environment.
I am happy to explore any of the above ideas either by leading in school CPD sessions or as a speaker at conference.
